2025 North Carolina Flag Football Fall State Championship

Wakefield Completes Perfect Season with State Flag Football Championship

Durham, N.C. — Wakefield closed out an undefeated season by winning its first North Carolina Flag Football State Championship at Durham County Memorial Stadium, defeating defending champion Ashley 20–6.

After finishing third last season, the Wolverines returned with purpose and delivered their strongest performance of the year. Ashley struck first, taking a 6–0 lead in the opening quarter, but Wakefield responded with 20 unanswered points to take control of the game.

Quarterback Quinn Pope tied the score just before halftime, finding Nikki Amend in the end zone as time expired. In the third quarter, Pope connected with Amend again on a deep sideline throw, setting up a first-and-goal at the one-yard line. Pope ran it in two plays later, then hit Amend on the extra-point attempt to give Wakefield a 13–6 advantage.

Wakefield added insurance in the fourth quarter when Brenna Colleran scored on a three-yard run. Maddy Tegen converted the extra-point to extend the lead to 20–6. From there, the Wolverines’ defense held firm, preventing Ashley from mounting a comeback.

Amend was named Offensive Player of the Year for her touchdown and extra-point reception, while Colleran earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Wakefield finished its championship season with a perfect 27–0 record.
