CARY, N.C. — Norfolk State and Howard University extended their championship traditions at WakeMed Park, claiming the 2025 MEAC Cross Country titles.
In the men’s 8K, Norfolk State continued its reign of dominance, capturing a sixth consecutive MEAC Championship and the program’s 18th overall. Senior standout Lewis Too claimed the individual crown in 24:20.6, becoming the first Spartan to win the title since 2023. Teammate Mathew Kipkoech followed closely in third (24:44.4), while Jemmel Green (25:36.4) and Basil Koech (25:53.7) also earned All-MEAC honors.
The Spartans tallied 55 team points, edging Delaware State (70) and North Carolina Central (91) for the team championship. Director of Track and Field Kenneth Giles earned his 22nd MEAC Most Outstanding Coach award, adding another chapter to his storied career.
On the women’s side, Howard University reclaimed the conference crown with a commanding performance, placing four runners in the top 10 to secure the program’s second MEAC title since 2022.
Freshman phenom Alexis Jones led the Bison charge, winning the individual title in 17:49.1 to earn Outstanding Performer honors. Mira Martin finished runner-up in 18:18.7, with teammates Tiffany Mugubi (18:58.9) and Ester Kirk (19:00.0) rounding out the top 10. Head coach Dameon Morgan was named Outstanding Coach as Howard finished with 34 total points.
Norfolk State took second in the women’s race with 54 points, while North Carolina Central placed third at 71.
